Practical Engineering Australia is a Brisbane based mechanical, structural, and process engineering firm specialising in design, inspection, certification, project management and construction.
Our Capabilities
RPEQ Certification
Our RPEQ engineers are backed by extensive experience and commitment to delivering high quality engineering services to you, your business and your clients.
Do I need RPEQ Certification?
RPEQ certification is a legal requirement for professional engineering services being carried out in Queensland, or for a Queensland-based project.
What is a professional engineering service?
The Professional Engineers Act 2002 states that “professional engineering service means an engineering services that requires, or is based on, the application of engineering principles and data to a design, or to a construction or production activity…” The implications of this statement are far reaching and go beyond design certification.
Why RPEQ?
The RPEQ system was introduced in 1930 by The Board of Professional Engineers of Queensland, with the intention of bringing regulation and accountability to practising professional engineers. Currently, professional engineers can be registered as competent under twenty-six (26) areas of engineering ranging from Aeronautical and Civil, to Mechanical and Structural.
Mechanical, Structural & Process Design
Practical Engineering offers a broad range of design experience across many industry sectors for complex structures, bespoke mechanical and process solutions and concept design including feasibility studies.
We can take your specific project requirements and complement your expertise across a full range of engineering disciplines. Our engineers and draftsmen provide excellence through a combination of technical skills and extensive industry experience.
Practical Engineering maximise collaboration with clients to create a flexible staged design pathway which meets the project needs. This is particularly advantageous during the concept design phase where design options can be explored in more depth providing the stakeholders with the information required to secure, funding, timeframes, increased levels of safety and resources to Project success. We are proud of our reputation for providing alternate processes and Practical solutions, exceeding client expectation, which reduces capital, and maintenance costs, while maintaining and improving your system safety performance and efficiency.
The Practical Engineering team’s qualifications include:
- CPEng – Chartered Professional Engineers
- NER – National Engineering Register
- RPEQ – Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland
- CPPM – Certified Practicing Project Manager

Pressure Vessel Design & Verification
PEA excels in the design of pressure vessels and has a long list of design and manufacture success stories. We provide preliminary design consulting through to issued for construction design services, with RPEQ certification of all issued pressure vessel designs to Australian or International Standards as required.
We understand the vast range of Australian standards and legislation for pressure vessels, tanks and tank farms, and can offer you a range of services for their safe use.
These include:
• Compliance assessment of existing storage facilities
• Hazard Level Assessment
• Pressure Vessel Design
• Storage facility design
• Tank Design
• Tank Storage Facility Modifications
• Transportable Vessel Design
Pressure Equipment Design Verification
Design verification is the process where an existing pressure vessel design, typically approved by a RPEQ engineer, is verified by a second engineer, typically a RPEQ engineer with particular competence in the verification of pressure equipment. This process is required by each State and Territory’s Workplace Health and Safety authority as part of the Plant Design Registration process for certain pressure vessels and speaks to the high hazards that pressure vessels pose to the environment, infrastructure and personnel around them.
Our design verifiers are highly skilled, registered on the National Engineering Register in the special area of practice of pressure equipment design verification and meet the competency requirements of AS/NZS 4481 Pressure equipment – competencies of inspectors.
PEA has extensive experience and capability in offering competitive pressure equipment design verification services in accordance with AS 3920 Pressure equipment – Conformity assessment. PEA’s ISO 9001 Quality Management System accreditation also permits both design and design verification of pressure equipment to be completed internally, without the need for you to engage third-party consultants.

]Testing, Certification & Inspection
Stage 1 – Inspection
Inspection is a critical aspect of ascertaining:
how to extend an assets design life,
mode of failure,
overall condition for continued use
Knowing what to look for is critical to safety, cost and functionality. PEA pride ourselves on the experience we have to know when to look past the obvious.
Stage 2 – Testing & Commissioning
Testing & Commissioning requirements vary depending on the asset. PEA has extensive experience in testing & commissioning to Australian and International Standards, clients Innovative solutions and equipment such as prototypes, pressure vessels and pipework, lifting devices including cranes and MEWPS. PEA can carry out your testing requirements and guide you through the complex statutory requirements.
Our team of Engineers and Fitters can perform in-house testing our alternatively any location in Australia.
Stage 3 – Certification
Our team hold Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) and Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) qualifications and are registered on the National Engineering Register (NER)
We mitigate client risk and deliver peace of mind. We offer RPEQ, CPEng certification of new or existing designs for compliance across Australian, State, and where applicable international, standards and legislation.
